Ashtabula, Ohio - Kathryn Shelby, age 66, passed away peacefully on July 24, 2025, after a brief illness.

She was born on November 12, 1958, in Warren, Ohio, Kathryn was the beloved daughter of Dr. Reginald Shelby, M.D. and Jessie Shelby. She earned her nursing degree from Kent State University and dedicated her life to caring for others with unwavering compassion and strength.

A devoted registered nurse specializing in hospice and pediatrics, Kathryn retired in 2020 from Ashtabula County Medical Center. Beyond her professional achievements, she was a mentor, guide, and pillar of support to countless individuals. She was a proud inductee of the Edgewood Hall of Fame and the founder of the Shelby Family Foundation of Ashtabula County, which provides scholarships to help minorities pursue careers as EMTs, firefighters, and police officers.

Kathryn was also an avid scuba diver and enjoyed staying active at Alvin's Gym. Above all, she cherished her roles as a mother, grandmother, sister, and friend. Her greatest joy was her family, whom she loved deeply and supported wholeheartedly.

She is survived by her children, Nicole Rodriguez and Alvin (Danae) Rodriguez; her granddaughter, Emme Rodriguez; her brother, Reginald (Desi) Shelby; and her nephew, Markese Shelby.

Kathryn was preceded in death by her parents, Dr. Reginald Shelby, M.D. and Jessie Shelby.

Calling hours will be held on Friday, August 1, from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at Fleming & Billman Funeral Home, 526 W. Prospect Rd., Ashtabula, Ohio. A private family service will be held on Saturday.

Kathryn's legacy of love, strength, and service will live on in the hearts of all who knew her.
