Ashtabula, OH - Kay A. Humphrey, lovingly known as "Kaybird," passed away peacefully on December 26, 2025. Born on February 20, 1953, Kay lived a life defined by kindness, independence, and a deep devotion to the people—and animals—she loved.
Kay found joy in simple, beautiful things: tending to her flowers, creating delicious meals, and offering a helping hand to anyone who needed one. She was a steadfast supporter of her favorite charities and had a special place in her heart for stray cats. Any cat that wandered into her life found care, comfort, and compassion—Kay made sure of it.
She is survived by her loving husband, Chris Savarese; her brother Brian (Kathy) Humphrey; her sister Wendy Humphrey (Peter); and her nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, Shirley and Nelson Humphrey; and her brother, Todd Humphrey.
A heartfelt thanks to Kay's cousin Elaine and Kay's helper Mariah for their support, care, and companionship.
True to her independent spirit, Kay made her wishes clear: she will be cremated, with no service, no public burial, and no formal ceremony. She always did things her own way, and her final arrangements reflect that same quiet strength and individuality.
Kay's warmth, generosity, and unmistakable "Kaybird" spirit will be deeply missed by all who knew her.
In honor of Kay's lifelong love for animals, donations may be made to SOS Cat Rescue, PO Box 172, North Kingsville, OH 44068, or Harbor Cat Rescue, PO Box 3083, Ashtabula, OH 44004-3083.
