Ashtabula, OH - LaVona (Ickes) Starkey, 91, passed away on June 12, 2026, at her home with family by her side.

She was born in Unionville, OH on February 18, 1935, to Marilla and Ralph Starkey.

She dedicated her life to caring for other people in her career and her home life. She was a caregiver at Con-Lea Nursing Home for over 20 years, retiring in 1997, then doing whatever she could do to help her family and spoil her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

She was blessed to have 6 children call her mom, 10 grandchildren and 23 great-grandchildren to call her grandma.

She is survived by her children, Patrick (Donna) Sullivan, Rodney (Darryl) Ickes-Smith, Katherine (Todd) Potter, Darlene Arnett, and Darnell (Katherine) Long. Her grandchildren Kendall Ickes, Dustin Potter, Josiah Ickes, Chris Glatz, Christy Petts, Cassandra Murray, Cortney Potter, James Ickes, James Murray, and Dakota Mitchell. Her 23 great-grandchildren, her nieces and nephews, and special friend Debbie Wallace.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her son, George Michael "Mikey" Sutton; her brothers and sister-in-laws, Russ (Jan) Starkey and Charles (Cindy) Starkey, and her nephews Charlie Bill and Little Rusty.

Special thank you to Bella Care Hospice: Nancy, Liz, and Nicole for giving her the care and love she deserved. She loved you all very much.

Thank you to everyone that helped make it possible to honor her wish by being able to stay in her home with her family until her passing. There are no words to thank you enough.

A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date.
