Ashtabula, Ohio - Marguerite Elizabeth Jane (Libbey) Mason, 97, passed away peacefully on Sunday, June 16, 2024.
She was born on July 11, 1926 in West Andover, Ohio; the daughter of Kenneth and Ellen (Rhoades) Weir.
Marguerite is a graduate of Dorset High School, class of 1944. She retired from Windstream after 20 years, and from Avon of 39 years. Marguerite previously worked at Industrial Rayon for 20 years, Reliance electric for 2 years and Shea's Theater for 9 years.
She was an avid bowler of over 70 years. She was the captain of the Wed Early Bird League, serving as the president of the League as well. Director of AWBA for 22 years. She also participated in national, state, city and county senior citizen and senior ladies tournaments.
Her main priority was taking care of her family. She enjoyed reading, crocheting, needlepoint, puzzles and taking care of her flowers and yard. Marguerite was an avid fan of the Indians and Cavaliers, never missing a game on the tv.
She was a member of the VFW 943 and IBEW for 21 years. An avid member of the First United Methodist Church for 74 years.
She and Miles loved traveling; they traveled to the Hawaiian Islands 9 times, took several cruises and trips to Las Vegas, and Florida. Her all-time favorite trips were to Texas to visit her beloved family.
She was very active in the Ashtabula County Kidney Foundation, serving as the president and trustee, she also belonged to the Ohio Kidney Foundation, serving as secretary and served as a delegate in National Foundation, attending numerous conventions. She helped to establish the Patients Serving Fund. During the time Libbey's did home dialysis they hosted the Kent State Nursing Program to observe. Marguerite diligently worked with Frank Nappi and Hamlin Hospital to help establish a Dialysis unit in Ashtabula.
Marguerite is survived by her children: Gerald (Louise) Libbey and Donna Seaman, stepsons, James (Jacklyn) Mason, Timothy Mason; her 7 grandchildren; 11 great grandchildren; and her beloved cat, Carly and her extended family and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents; first husband, Donald Libbey; second husband, Miles Mason; stepson, Douglas Mason; and her brothers, George Weir and Gordon Weir.
Calling hours will be held from 11:00am - 1:00pm on Saturday, June 22nd at Fleming & Billman Funeral Home 526 W. Prospect Rd, Ashtabula. Funeral service at 1:00pm. Luncheon at First United Methodist Church will follow the burial.
