Orwell, Ohio - Mary Katharine "Aunt Katie" Schamberg, age 71, attended to by her family and friends, passed away on Thursday, May 2, 2024, in her home in Orwell, Ohio. Katie was the daughter of Mary Laverne and Charles George Schamberg and born July 6, 1952, in Chardon, Ohio along with her twin brother, Chuck. Katie graduated from high school in Seattle, Washington and pursued an air transportation degree from Highline Community College before returning to Ohio.

Her occupation at Geauga Hospital (now University Hospitals at Geauga Medical Center) was Credit Manager, lasting 37 years before retirement in 2018. Katie's role in this capacity brought her into contact with thousands of community members, which opened many avenues of lifelong friendships. She also served as Amish Community Liaison for UH Geauga and was active with the UH Geauga Regional Auxiliary. Volunteering was core to her being and included organizations within the Orwell community especially St. Mary's Church and the Daughters of St. Mary. Katie found great pleasure and joy traveling and participating in family activities and gatherings. She acted as the unofficial family historian and photographer, earning her the nickname "Kodak Katie". Katie has influenced her Schamberg nieces and nephews: Lance (Brittany Scouten), Jay (Amy), Greg (Kelly Caissie), Terah (Stephen Marshall), Charles III, James (Rachelle Greeves), Graham, Leslie (Brandon) Hemming, Michael (Nikki Mangrum) and Steven Jr. (Christie Boggs). Her great nieces and nephews include Ava Jane, Laney, Kayd, Gwen, Kole, Kurt II, Thom, Ashley, Tabor, Sabin, Logan, Stockton, Gwen, Gavin and Skylar. Preceded in death by her parents, Charles and Mary LaVerne Schamberg, nephews Robert Schamberg, Jr. and Sgt. Kurt Schamberg and survived by brothers Thomas (Joanne) Schamberg, Steven Schamberg, Robert (Debra) Schamberg and Charles (Barb) Schamberg, Jr. A funeral mass officiated by Rev. Kevin McCaffrey will take place at St. Mary Roman Catholic Church, 103 N. Maple Street, Orwell, OH 44076 on Friday, May 10, 2024 at 11:00 a.m., burial will follow at St. Mary Cemetery. Visitation will be held at Paine Funeral Home, Inc., 140 E. Main Street, Orwell, OH 44076 on Thursday, May 9, 2024 from 5:00 p. m. to 8:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in honor of Katie to Daughters of St. Mary, 103 N.
