Painesville, Ohio - Matthew Aaron DeGeorge, 42, of Painesville, Ohio passed away at his home on May 7, 2025, bringing his courageous and years long battle with addiction and mental illness to an end.
He was born in Ashtabula, Ohio on September 6, 1982, to Eugene and Betty (Olson) DeGeorge and graduated from Ashtabula High School in 2000.
Matt worked as an IT Technician with New Balance. In his free time he enjoyed playing softball, was an avid bowler, loved playing guitar and playing cards with family and friends. He approached life with a quick wit and sense of humor that he was well known for. Matt loved to make others laugh.
He is survived by his mother, Betty DeGeorge Valentine, siblings, Cheryl Fletcher (Brian), Nicholas DeGeorge (Tina), David DeGeorge (Donna), Gary DeGeorge (Julie), Tom Bucci and Dan Bucci (Lynne). He is also survived by many loving nieces and nephews, his great niece, and his cat, PeeWee.
Matt was preceded in death by his father, Eugene DeGeorge and stepfather, Doug Valentine.
A Celebration of Life reception will be held from 1-3pm on Saturday, May 17, 2025 at Lake Erie Creation and Funeral Services, 1500 Harpersfield Rd, Geneva, Ohio. Matt was an avid Ohio State Buckeyes fan and his family invites guests to wear their favorite Ohio State gear.
