Ashtabula, Ohio - Monna L. Light-O'Connor, 96, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, May 14, 2025, at the Jefferson Healthcare Center.
Born on October 21, 1928, in Kirtland, Ohio, she was the daughter of Montie and Maud (Smith) Mansfield. She was a 1946 graduate of Geneva High School.
Monna was known for her love of sewing and crafts and took great joy in spending time with her family. She was a feisty, fun-loving woman who brought laughter and warmth wherever she went. A longtime, dedicated member of the Saybrook United Methodist Church, her faith and community were important pillars in her life. She was a loving and devoted mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister and friend to many.
For 25 years she was the manager of Convenient Food Mart in Geneva, Ohio on South Broadway. Her customers became friends that she cared for as if they were family.
She is survived by her children: Robert Light, Betty (Vince) Barchanowicz, and Michael (Jessica) Light; her grandchildren: Jenny, Josh, Derek, Dean, Tawnya, Tami, Vince, Joe, Brandon, and Ali; and 14 great-grandchildren. She is also survived by her sister, Rose Marie Fails; and her sisters-in-law: Donna Sullivan and Winnie Giangola.
Monna was preceded in death by her first husband, Robert R. Light, who passed away in 1978, and her second husband, Elton J. O'Connor, who passed away in 2002; as well as her siblings: Donna Kriglein, Alice Kosic, Helen Popelstein, John Mansfield, Lester Mansfield, Oliver Mansfield and Floyd Mansfield.
Visitation will be held on Saturday, March 17, at the Saybrook United Methodist Church, 7900 Depot Rd, Ashtabula, OH 44004; calling hours will be from 10:00 to 11:00 a.m., with a funeral service to follow at 11:00 a.m. Monna will be laid to rest in Evergreen Cemetery, Geneva, Ohio.
