Nathan Emmett "Bud" Tanner, 95, passed away peacefully at his home on Friday, October 18, 2024. He was surrounded by family.
He was born November 24, 1928 in Meadville, Pennsylvania, the son of the late Amos and Vida (Hudson) Tanner. A lifelong area resident, Bud graduated from Pierpont High School. He married the love of his life Beverly Starks on December 2, 1946. They were married for 69 years prior to her passing.
Over his career, Nathan served as both plant manager and supervisor in the US and overseas for Union Carbide / Elkem Metals. He retired after over 33 years of service to the company.
He enjoyed camping, hunting and fishing, bowling, caring for his yard, traveling, and spending time with family and friends. Early in his life he served as Volunteer Fire Chief in Pierpont, was active with the Kingsville Lions Club, and later in life looked forward to ringing the bell for the Salvation Army at holiday time. He was a member of Ashtabula First Church of the Nazarene until his health no longer allowed him to attend services.
Mr. Tanner is survived by 6 of his 7 children, Cheryl Holman, Janine White, Gregg (Sally) Tanner, Terri (Jeffrey) Stuyvesant, Tami Nelson and Tricia (Arnaud) Poissonnier; 23 beloved grandchildren, 34 great-grandchildren and 4 great-great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Beverly; son, Brian Tanner; grandson, Joseph Daywalt; sons-in-law, Craig Daywalt, Michael White, C. Ray Holman; daughter-in-law, Lavena "Beanie" Tanner; granddaughter-in-law, Lynn Sylvester; and his sisters, Doreen Leonard and Miriam Misch.
Calling hours will be held Monday, October 28, 2024, from 11AM-1PM at the Zaback-Williams-Ducro Funeral Home, 500 W. Prospect Rd., Ashtabula, where a memorial service will follow at 1:00PM. Inurnment will immediately follow at Greenlawn Memory Gardens.
In lieu of flowers, donations honoring Nathan's life can be made to Hospice of the Western Reserve.
