Ashtabula, OH - Ruth Elisabeth Hlinovsky, 79, of Ashtabula, OH, passed away on March 18th, 2026, at Ashtabula Regional Medical Center due to complications from a stroke. She was born on October 26th, 1946, in Nürnberg, Germany.

She was predeceased by her husband, Vincent G. Hlinovsky; her parents, Gerhard Erich Woserau and Elise Hermine Woserau, of Nürnberg, Germany; her brother, Peter Bittler, Nürnberg, Germany; and her cat, Claudia.

Ruth was married to her husband for 36 years up until his death on May 1st, 2006. Following his passing, she moved from their home they built together in Little Marsh, PA, to Ashtabula, OH, to be closer to her husband's surviving family.

Ruth was very much a pillar of strength, grace, and determination. She was a well-loved part of her community and will be greatly missed by the countless lives she touched. Her many local works included being the chair of the Hospitality Committee at her church of 13 years, a member of 11 years and president of the Ashtabula Women's Club, and a longtime sponsor for Alcoholics Anonymous. She also made regular charitable donations to the SPCA and many local animal shelters. Ruth always cared for all of those around her, especially the animals.

Ruth is survived by her daughter Angelika Maihle of Mt. Airy, MD; step-children Vincent (Robin) G. Hlinovsky III, Michael (Debi) Hlinovsky, and Laura (Dave) Koubsky of VA and Joel Hlinovsky of PA; grandchildren Katherine (Joshua) Beckwith of Victoria, BC, Canada, David (Adrienne) Maihle of Brooklyn, NY, and many more step-grandchildren and great-grandchildren; niece Petra Bittler of Nürnberg, Germany; her extended families in Germany and the US; and, not to forget, her beloved cat, Penny!

Her memorial service will be held at Messiah Lutheran Church on April 11th at 1 PM and will be facilitated by Kathleen Shaffer, 440-344-3835, who may be contacted for more details. Memorial contributions may be made to any of the local animal shelters in her honor.
