Sarah W. Whitney Obituary

Sarah W. Whitney, 63, of Conneaut, passed away Sunday, March 30, 2025 at home surrounded by her family. She was born November 28, 1961 in Conneaut, the daughter of George Whitney and Drusilla "Dru" (Swanson) Bartone.

Sarah earned her Bachelor of Science from the University of Akron and worked as a Chemical Engineer for Port Huron Paper Company, General Electric and American Standard. She concluded her career with Doughmain Financial Literacy Foundation. Sarah was known for her ability to identify problems and find creative, efficient, and

innovative solutions as a Six Sigma blackbelt.

She was a lifelong member of the First Congregational United Church of Christ where she formerly held the position of treasurer and trustee. Sarah enjoyed her volunteer work as a tour guide at Holden Arboretum and a tutor for adults learning English. She

loved to travel, visiting all 50 states and six of the seven continents. Sarah enjoyed spending time with her family and friends at their summer cottage on Lake Erie.

Sarah was a talented weaver and jewelry maker and had recently taken up wood carving. Sarah had an eye for function and design, helping create the floorplan for her house and all of its landscaping. Over the years, Sarah worked with friends to cut out and paint large wooden safari animals for her annual Christmas display, which delighted all who drove by.

Sarah lived in several different states over her lifetime, but considered Conneaut her home. She was deeply invested in Conneaut and the members of her community. Sarah quietly gave back in many ways, such as her anonymous donations to the Conneaut Water Department to be used to pay the bills for residents who were struggling.

Survivors include her sisters Martha Fasick, Margaret (Timothy) Carey, and Barbara (Jay) McMellen; nieces and nephews Jason Fasick, David (Megan) Fasick, Charles

Carey, Joseph (Amy) Carey, Katelyn (Taylor) Powers, and Christopher (Ashley) McMellen; great nieces and great nephews Savanah and Grayson Fasick, Jack and

Harper Carey, Kora and Graham Powers, and George, Annabelle, and Benjamin McMellen. Also surviving are close cousins Lisa (Nigel) Purnell and Betsy Ahola and special friends Scott and Suzie, Margie, Ken, Karen and George, Sandy, and Tanis and her beloved dog, Allie.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her stepfather Emil Bartone; and her brother-in-law Scott Fasick.

Funeral service will be 12:30 PM, Saturday, April 5, 2025 at the Marcy Funeral Home, 208 Liberty St., Conneaut. Burial will follow in Glenwood Cemetery. Visitation will be from 10:30 until the time of the service at 12:30 PM.

Contributions may be made in Sarah's memory to the Conneaut Water Department to continue her work in helping others or to Blessings in a Backpack, a group that provides food each week for students in need. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
