ASHTABULA, Ohio - Susan Weir Reid, age 85, passed away on January 22, 2026.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Paul and Eleanor Hjerpe, and her brother, Peter Hjerpe.

She is survived by her three children, Arthur Weir, Mary Weir, and Aaron Reid. She died peacefully with family at her bedside, listening to beautiful classical music.

Susan was beautiful, intelligent, and vivacious, and she loved life. While raising her three children on her own, she returned to college and earned an Associate of Arts degree with a major in English. She was an antiques dealer specializing in dolls and at one time owned two collectible/antique stores in Cleveland. She had a flair for decorating, and reading was her passion. She loved listening to Science Friday on the radio, classical music, and Bob Dylan.

Susan was a true animal lover, rescuing many cats and dogs, as well as two frogs from a Chinese grocery store, which she named Charles and Camilla, who lived a comfortable life in her backyard pond for several years.

Originally from Ashtabula, Ohio, she expressed her wish to be buried there near her favorite aunt, Stella Hjerpe. She will be greatly missed and thought of often, as a new bright star shining down from the heavens.

Graveside service will be held on Wednesday, January 28, at 1:00pm at Edgewood Cemetery, 4011 State Rd, Ashtabula, Ohio.
