Conneaut, OH - Mr. Ted Hummer, 92, of Conneaut, passed away Wednesday afternoon, July 9, 2025 at the Villa at the Lake. He was born June 25, 1933 in Ashtabula, the son of Rufus and Elizabeth "Betty Boop" (Knowleton) Hummer.
Ted graduated high school and enlisted in the United States Navy. After his honorable discharge, he attended Bowling Green University, where he earned his bachelor's degree. He was the art teacher at Rowe, retired in 1984.
He was a member of New Leaf United Methodist Church, 32nd Degree Mason of the Evergreen Masonic Lodge #222, and member of the Former Rose Chapter of Eastern Star. Ted volunteered his time with several activities around town, including playing the piano at the villa, teaching art lessons at the Conneaut Art Center, and volunteering with the Rose Bud Clowns. He was the original person who formed the dance club at the Conneaut Country Club. He enjoyed fishing, decorating for the holidays, especially Halloween and Christmas, watching the Cleveland Indians and Ohio State football, loved classical music, especially Frank Sinatra, and loved his favorite companion dog Anne.
Teds biggest treasure was his family. Survivors include his wife of 66 years, Willa (England) Hummer, sons Doug Hummer of Sheffield Township, and Kirk (Mary) Hummer of Columbus, Lisa Hummer-Mercer of Columbus; grandchildren Jackson (Payton) Hummer, Alexis Hummer, Ashley Hummer, Jacob (Sydney) Hummer, Kailee Hummer, Zachary Hummer, Tanner Mercer, and Treyton Mercer; great-grandchildren Chloe, Logan, Bert, Gus, and Jacob.
He was preceded in death by his parents, and maternal and paternal grandparents.
Funeral service will be 10:00 AM, Monday, July 14, 2025 at New Leaf United Methodist Church, 110 Gateway Ave. Conneaut, with Pastor Scott and Pastor Jan Walsh officiating. Burial will follow in Greenlawn Memory Gardens, North Kingsville, with military honors conducted by the American Legion Cowle Post #151.
Visitation will be 1:00-3:00 PM, Sunday, July 13, 2025 at the Marcy Funeral Home and Cremation Center, 208 Liberty St., Conneaut.
Contributions may be made to New Leaf United Methodist Church. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home and at the church.
