Ashtabula, Oh - Thomas Herle Hogan, 81, of Ashtabula, passed away unexpectedly at his boat on September 16, 2025.
Family was Tom's greatest joy. A devoted husband of 54 years, father, grandfather, and great grand-father, his pride and love for his family shone in his constant smile. He was happiest surrounded by his family and friends, who will forever remember his steady guidance, playful humor, and unwavering support. Tom valued the friendships he built over the years, enjoying loyalty, laughter, and shared memories.
Born December 10, 1943, to Arthur and Antonya (Herle) Hogan, Tom was a lifelong resident of Ashtabula. He graduated from Edgewood High School in 1961. After graduation from Kent State University in1966 with his Bachelor's of Education in Industrial Arts, he taught in Maryland before returning to teach Shop at Edgewood High School. In 1971, he took ownership of Weather Sealco, a home improvement company founded by his father. For five decades, Tom successfully led the business with dedication and integrity until his retirement in 2021, when his son proudly carried on the family business.
Tom was deeply committed and served his community across many organizations including the Ashtabula County Builders Association and the Greater Ashtabula Chamber of Commerce. He was an active member of his parish, St. Joseph Calasanctius (Jefferson, Ohio). Tom spearheaded the Wine and Walleye Festival fishing tournament for 10 years. He was recognized for his bravery and awarded the American Red Cross Hero Award in 2013.
Tom's passions shaped his life. An avid outdoorsman, he loved hunting, raising Tennessee Walker Fox-hounds, woodworking, and above all fishing. His beautiful and finely crafted furniture is cherished in the homes of family members and friends. As Captain of Kona Babe Charters on Lake Erie for 22 years, Tom helped many catch their limit on Lake Erie.
He is deeply missed, fondly remembered, and forever cherished by those whose lives he enriched.
Tom is survived by his beloved wife Genevieve (Burr) Hogan; his children Amy Reed (Dave Sycz), John (Wendy) Hogan, Susanna Hogan, Sarah (Jessie) Bowers; his grandchildren, Clay Reed (Megan McCluskey), Tristan Hogan (Claire Eidens), Nathan Reed, Madalyn Hogan, Dylan Johnston, Rowan Johnston, and Harriet Johnston; his great grandchild Meadow Reed; his brother James (Christine) Hogan; and many dear family and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, Arthur and Antonya Hogan, and brother A. William Hogan and sister-in-law Ada (Dickinson) Hogan.
Calling hours will be held on Monday September 22nd from 4-7pm at Fleming & Billman Funeral Home, 526 W. Prospect Rd., Ashtabula, Ohio. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11am on Tuesday September 23rd at St. Joseph Calasanctius Church, 32 E. Jefferson St, Jefferson, Ohio, with burial to follow at Maple Grove Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Plymouth Township Fire Department or St. Joseph Calasanctius Church.
