Vera L. (Babcock) Laurie-Maginnis, 89, passed away peacefully on Oct. 17, 2021, with her daughters and grandchildren by her bedside. She was born in Ashtabula on June 15, 1932, the daughter of Edward and Mary (Broughton) Babcock. Vera was a graduate of Ashtabula High School, the Class of 1950. She worked in sales for 23 years at Sears; she retired in 1996. She was a member of the Eastside Presbyterian Church, Harris Memorial Presbyterian Church, Trinity Presbyterian and Pierpont Presbyterian Church; and the Order of the Eastern Star. Volunteerism and giving back to the community was very important to Vera. She volunteered at the Child Conservation League and helped with the "Tots-to-Teens" program; she was also a volunteer and coordinator of the hospital "pink ladies" on the 4th Floor endoscopy unit at ACMC for many years. In her free time, she enjoyed gardening and boating and was a past member of the Riverside Yacht Club. Vera's true source of happiness came from the love she gave and received from her family. She will be missed very dearly.
She is survived by her daughters: Coleen (Gary) Herron of Ashtabula, Pamela (Rick) Sawyer of North Olmsted and Patricia (John) Gibson of Cummings GA.; her grandchildren: Shawn (Enola) Herron, Kelley (Michael) Katon, Nathan (Rachael) Gibson, Jaclyn (Christopher) Fait, Ginny (Lenny) Delycure and Kristin (Ben) Scharte; 17 great-grandchildren; and her brother, Kenneth Babcock.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her former husband Tedrick Laurie, her sister Dorothy Stasick and her brother John Babcock.
Services will be held on Thursday, Oct. 21, 2021, at the Pierpont Presbyterian Church, 71 State Route 7, Pierpont, Ohio. Calling hours from 11 a.m. - 12 p.m. and funeral service at 12 p.m. Burial will follow in Greenlawn Memory Gardens.
